Having a hard time finding a good handyman? HGTV is having the same problem.

The cable network just announced that they are looking for a few good handymen (and women) to compete in an upcoming series titled, All American Handyman.

Don’t start dialing your local handyman, because only non-professionals can apply. Don’t think about putting in notice, either. They want crafty individuals who have been out of the business for at least five years. Aside from knowing which end of the hammer works best, applicants should also be “charismatic” and “energetic.” In other words, those with an inner-Ty Pennington (but not actual home improvement TV experience) may have the best chances to secure a spot.

The application process includes photos of both you and your handiwork. Expect to submit photos of three of your favorite projects, as well as career goals, favorite weekend plans, embarrassing moments, and other juicy tidbits that might make you TV-worthy. / CC BY 2.0

Prizes have yet to be determined, but the network says it should be something pretty good. It had better be, because if you make it to the finals, you’ll be expected to do interviews and endure 10- to 12-hour workdays. (It’s true! Read the rules and requirements, people!)

If that sounds like your dream, you’d better get going; HGTV is taking applications from now until 5:00 p.m. (EST) on April 1, 2010.
