Some lobby areas really roll out the red carpet. Some look more like a mental ward. BC Exchange is looking for the latter to enter the first ever Ugly Lobby Contest.
BC Exchange is a carpet distributor in the New York City area. They have plenty of partners who are willing to step up and play along, so if you’re a New York City co-op or condo owner who’s dying to take a hammer to your lobby area, send in a photo, and BC may send someone out to do it for you.
One of the Ugly Lobby judges is Cathy Hobb, an interior designer and co-host of WPIX-TV’s Metro-Residential show. She says that the signs of a truly ugly lobby include furniture overcrowding and bland colors. Instead, she suggests stripes, colors and textures – just don’t get too crazy with current trends. Hobb also says that while a trendy look might appear awesome now, it can get old pretty fast.
If old and/or ugly sounds like your building, upload a photo and enter the contest. Submissions are being accepted now through September 15, 2010. Eligible participants are co-op or condo buildings within the five boroughs of New York with at least 30 units.
The winner will score a $25,000 makeover for the building, as well as a $5,000 home makeover his/her own home. We’re guessing you might also get a few plates of brownies from happy, fellow residents.
