For some reason I find that sitting on the floor is sometimes far more comfortable than sinking into a couch. Maybe it’s because I have some back problems, but there’s just something about the hard floor that feels relaxing—at least for a while.
That’s why this thing got me a little excited:
This is the Carpet Lounge.
Made of medium density fiberboard, this retractable seating area blends with the carpet thanks to zippers and Velcro. One minute you’re walking on it—the next, you’re sitting on it. This design includes three armchair-like back supports and two chaise-lounges.
I suspect that this product is in the concept phase, as I could find no other details—including price, manufacturer, and distributor. Personally, I like the idea. While it doesn’t look like it would be comfortable for long periods of time, it would be great for playing board games or cards. Maybe if the backrests were inflatable or had extra room to insert cushions. . . ?
And then there’s the whole notion of walking all over your chair. Think about it. It would be like dragging dirty shoes across your couch. And we don’t want that, do we?
But I must admit that the fake people in this picture look relaxed. Except for the one on the left. And notice: she isn’t using the Carpet Lounge…
