Bring Star Trek technology home . . . for your dog.
What you’re looking at here is an electronic pet door, called the Power Pet. But there’s a dog walking through it, so it’s kinda difficult to see the actual product. It’s pretty cool – but it makes me wonder just how lazy pets are these days.
I’m surprised that my fat cat isn’t in there.
Marketed as the “pet door of the 22nd century,” the Power Pet is a motor driven translucent panel that is triggered by a directional signal emanating from a device on a pet’s collar.
It can be mounted to a door, a wall, or a patio panel, and is bulletproof (just in case the raccoons decide to mobilize against the neighborhood).
The control panel is more like the interface for a home alarm system than a… well. . . the bathroom door for a dog.
HGTV was all over it.
As the Sci-Fi geek of the FIY crew, I gotta say I like this thing. But if we’re talking about pet technology . . . wouldn’t an auto poop scooper for the yard be more useful?
Beam **it up, Scotty.
