How NOT To Smash Your Thumb with a Hammer0

I’ve lost track as to how many times I’ve smashed my fingers with a hammer.  You’d think that after all of these years I’d learn.  I’m a bit slow, I suppose.  But not so slow that I would miss out on what I think is a great little tool: The ThumbSaver.

That’s right, my friends.  No more smashed fingers.  FWTools has developed one of those things that I wish I’d had the foresight to create.  This deceptively simple device makes a ridiculous amount of sense.

Essentially, the ThumbSaver is an aluminum shaft with an ergonomically designed grip.  A powerful magnet is mounted inside the shaft, which ends with a notched edge.  To use it, simply slip the nail (or screw or fence staple or anything else that’ll fit in there) into the slot, hold it level and smack it with a hammer or run it in with a drill.

It comes in two sizes: the large ThumbSaver is 7 1/2 inches long with a 7/8 inch grip, and the smaller model is 6 inches long with 5/8 inch grip.

And as annoying as TV pitches are, these two talking heads really do show how much common sense there is in the design of this gadget:

What do you think?  Any good hammer injury stories out there?  Please tell me (in the comments below)  I’m not the only one . . .
