Vintage Kitchen Appliances0

I can be picky about my kitchen appliances.  For example, I despise glass top stoves.  I like that they come up to temp rapidly, but they are a royal pain to clean if something boils over.  Sure, I know there are new cleaning agents out there that make it a lot easier than it used to be to scrape burnt gravy off of a glass burner—but call me a purist.  I’m an old-fashioned gas stove kind’a guy.

Take this stove from Elmira  for example:

I’m likin’ it.  From their Antique line, this Elmira stove offers all of the amenities of a 21st century appliance with a 19th century look.

They also offer stoves inspired by the 1950s:

This example from the Northstar line reminds me of an old-fashioned jukebox—except with burners.

Or if you want to go even farther back in time, check out this sucker:

Yep—that’s a wood burning stove from the Fireview line.  I suppose this would be the perfect appliance if you live in a cabin in the middle of nowhere.  Of course, if you did you wouldn’t have electricity (or the Internet, for that matter) so the odds are good that you wouldn’t be reading this . . .

These stoves are available in a variety of colors and with options for either gas or electric elements (or a combination of both!).

With three generations of appliance manufacturing, Elmira started as a small hardware store selling wood burning stoves to local Mennonites.  In the 1970s, the company began manufacturing their own stoves using designs from the 1800s.

But a retro look certainly doesn’t mean a retro price.  Depending on which model, you’ll be dropping $4,000 to $7,000 to bring some vintage-inspiration to your cooking appliances.

But if you do have that kind of cash, you can get a full retro look for your kitchen with Elmira refrigerators, wall ovens, microwaves, and cabinet panels.  Spend enough money and your brand new kitchen can look really really old!
